Frequently Asked Questions
Are the sessions completely confidential?
We will do all we can to ensure that your coming and the session itself is confidential. We cannot control however, whether or not you share information with others or they see you coming to the office. There are a couple of other exceptions to confidentiality, but those will be clearly outlined before counseling ever begins. We will not share anything you divulge with your spouse, the elders, other members, or anyone else for that matter without your expressed written permission
What if I can't pay?
We will work with you, and your financial situation to make the counseling experience affordable for you. We do not exist to make money off of you or to break your budget. We find however, those that invest not only their time but their money will get much more out of the sessions.
Where do I go if I have appointment?
You should go to David Henniger's office unless you have signed up with another counselor, he will be waiting for you with his door open. He is located in the main building of the Summerville Church of Christ. His room is room number 10
What if I would like to see someone else besides David Henniger?
Ask and see if we have our new system in place, we have several who are qualified to counsel at the Summerville Church of Christ and are beginning to organize these into our center here.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Each session is around 45-50 min.
Does counseling/therapy really help?
Yes, though there are no personal guarantees in life. We find that if people really apply the things they talk about and learn in the counseling sessions they get incredible results in their life. The ones who don't get any help are the ones that refuse to do any life work outside of the counseling sessions.
How long does a person need to go before they will see changes in their life?
This depends on the person, and will be different for each person. However, it will boil down to how much are you willing to put into the process? The more you put in the faster you will see results.
Shouldn't a person just trust in God, wouldn't that solve their problems?
We believe this is a big part of the equation, which is why we do biblical counseling. We really stress that the most important aspect of change is that one is forming a stronger relationship with the Father. We also believe that everyone could form a stronger relationship with God, even our counselors, so nobody has really "arrived" here. Sometimes in life though we have drifted away from that trust in certain areas and don't even realize it, and we need some guidance to get back on the right track.
Can we do sessions over the phone?
In very rare circumstances this is possible, however, it is much better if you are available to come in person. It will be left up to the counselor if a phone consultation is reasonable for your situation. |
